Honda VTR 1000 SP1. Zatímco Honda VTR1000 Firestorm byla úspěšná na silnici, neměl schopnost porazit Ducati ve světě závodění. Ducati 916 a 996 dominovaly WSBK, Honda se tedy rozhodla postavit závodní V-Twin kterým porazí Ducati v její vlastní hře. Výsledek, který byl představen v roce 2000, byl VTR 1000 SP-1. 999cc V-twin motor měl blízko k firestorm designu, a představoval oversquare bore a zdvihovou architekturu 100 x 63.6mm (3,9 x 2,5 in). Zcela nový PGM-F1 systému vstřikování paliva nahradila karburátory, a čtyři vačkové hřídele byl řízeny přesně ozubenými převody, a nikoliv méně přesnými řetězi.
